I wasn't very familiar with T.S Elliot's poems (or with cats for that matter) but I felt quite honoured to be asked to illustrate such a classic for an anniversary edition; it had been illustrated so beautifully by Edward Gorey who is one of my favourite illustrators. I also did it because Faber & Faber was the publisher of my first children's book The Piemakers in 1988. I'm still not sure whether I'm good at drawing cats, especially now that we've got two in the house (- not my choice....).
